My colleagues in NY offer afterschool homework help with martial arts, martial arts birthdays, kickboxing and taebo, ballet on off hours etc. If it ever came to that for me I'd open a dry cleaning establishment. If it has to be sold that hard, there is no real interest. The children love it as well ! Look at the other alternatives ? Isn't it better they are in a school as oppose to being in the school yard ? or who knows where else ? AND yes, it isnt "training", but it is early development and hopefully fun and structure. Respectfully, greg :)) ----- Original Message ----- From: zisheged@aol.com Date: Thursday, September 25, 2008 10:40 pm Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Afterschool McDojo's To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > Yes, the kiddies pay for the rent, insurance, electricity etc of > the dojang. Our Taekwon-Do program is only offered four nights a week for a total of 20 hours a week. If we have $6K worth of monthly overhead, we'd have to generate $75ish a hour for every hour we're open. Offering other services OR having people sublease for other services during our off times only makes logical business sense. The big open floor that attracts us martial artists is also appealing to tumbling, aerobics, and gymnastics. If we aren't using the space and they can, it's good for everyone to sublease. This summer we subleased during day hours to YMCA for their summer camp and it worked out well. Of course, all of this 101 for business dummies is wasted for those true blue hard core instructors that can't figure out how to make it on their own.
