Zeishe **************** Kunye or or kyongne is used for military, martial arts, school. So in the martial art class, it is proper to say kunye as the command to bow. For other situations, insa is bow. For instance, when telling our little girl to say bow and greet someone you say insa haseyo. *************** Doesn't "insa" mean dismissed? Victor Dodge *************** Vic, I think you are thinking of heyson which is dismissed and a term used in military/martial arts more. We were interviewed by the national news media. That was very unexpected and exciting. It would be like the NBC or CBS news coming to meet us. Unfortunately, the whole thing is in Portuguese (and I spoke in Spanish), but I think you can get the gist of it all. I would like to thank Master Nelson Pinto and Inst. Sergio Anes for coordinating a fantastic trip. It was such a warm and wonderful experience. Also big thanks to Inst. Michael Klockner for coming out from Germany to be with us and share a good time together (he is also the first uke in the clip). Looking forward to next year. Farang! Spreading My Wings (James O'Connor) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net James, Being a "1st Dan" without a registered number isn't the worst thing in the world, and it doesn't hurt you in your quest for excellence and "meaning" in MA.  For that, I congratulate you on your instinct and sound thinking.  By all means, study many Martial Arts and find meaning and "balance" from each, for you will surely find that by these studies, you gain more wisdom, strength and understanding.  Primarily, the understanding is "self-awareness" which, it seems to me, to be your main focus (whether or not you realize it right now).  My school's "10th intonement to a better person" is:  "ALWAYS FINISH WHAT YOU START."  You may derive whatever lesson you choose from that phrase, and my Grand Master never "directed" our thoughts to any partcular conclusion.  Rather, he allowed each of us to find our own meaning in our endeavors and efforts, while he consistantly stressed the "Ten Articles of Mental Training." (OMAC Pledge also has 5 articles of mental and physical training in addition to the other Ten). www.omacindiana.com I recommend you to that site, not for any particular reason than "...all MA students must continue to learn, practice and teach..." As for me, I live in Crystal River, FL now, after living in Indianapolis, IN for over 30 years, and practicing TKD since Oct. 2001 (no, I didn't begin my studies as a result of "9/11").  I am currently studing Chengego Taiji Quan with two certified instructors who were taught and certified by their instructor who teaches in Port Richey, Fl, and whose Grand Master instructor "Kim Lee" lives in Jacksonville, FL.  In the 3 months since beginning classes, I have learned better balance and some methods of movement which allow me to recover energy faster between movements and strikes.  My training is of no importance here, but my point is obvious to all the readers of this digest:  YOU ARE STUDENTS OF MA TO THE END, AND YOU CAN ALWAYS LEARN SOMETHING NEW AND USEFUL, WHILE IMPARTING SOME OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE TO OTHERS.  If I'm wrong, please let me know. BOWS to all readers: Bob Burns, 2nd Dan TKD OMAC Indiana. Don't read that wrong, it was a very good  conversation and it really comes down to the areas of my interest in  study are different than his areas of interest in teaching. I'm still  a part of the family, my kids will still train there, he wished me  well in my growth and offered help and I will be back both to learn  and instruct in the future, very likely. Fasting is something that every martial artist needs to investigate and implement in their training. No offense, but there are a lot of morbidly obese people in the martial arts and some of this is because of poor eating habits. MA should practice healthy eating habits and really in my opinion have an optimal diet because it all relates to overall health. Fasting is excellent for the mind body and spirit. Fasting clears the mind since the body has been given a break- and let's face it some people stuff themselves at every feeding and their system is basically clogged and that truly has a negative impact on everything. You mind will be dull, spirit outta whack and your body will start to fail you. So when you fast, it allows the body to deal with all the food you stuffed into yourself, it can be properly handled and if you do a cleanse with the fast then your system will become unclogged.   at the changing of the seasons I do the master cleanse (aka the lemonade diet) and I do a fast. My first time doing a fast, I did it for 40 days no food, just herbal teas, water and something like gatorade. I'll tell you what, if you think you're sharp now, do a fast for 40 days you'll be like a super MA machine...lol. The raw energy you'll have will be unreal.   If you're interested in fasting, one thing I'll say about fasting with no food is be serious about it because when you've fasted for 3 days you can't go back to eating solid food right away or you run a risk of messing up your system. What I suggest is that you check out: http://thelemonadediet.com/ It's a cleanse that you do on a 10 day (miniumum) fast let me know what you think.   Jye   Wed, 10/29/08, Mike Donahoo wrote: From: Mike Donahoo Subject: [The_Dojang] Fasting To: "Ray Terry" Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 2:48 PM I know that this isn't a Korean martial art question per say, but we have touched on it before.
