The WTF has also awarded two "honorary" Kukkiwon 10th dan, both to individuals who were members of the IOC. The WTF, WTF Member National Associations and the Kukkiwon issue many honorary dans to political and non-political persons who make a contribution to the growth of taekwondo.? It took a long time to find out who got these 10th dans. Strangely though, the executive committee of the kukkiwon?outranks these 10th dans as far as decision making is concerned. the 10th dans are held in high veneration but do not have specific duties. In fact, I'm not sure if any of these 10th dans are still alive. The way I was taught was to lose fat around the midsection, strengthen the muscles, and then toughen the muscles with impact which also should be in combination with learning to breathe properly and learning to receive the impact. But also the main key is having a good diet. One thing I loved about TKD was that all the kicking really builds your body up nicely from stamina to lower abs etc. The exercises we did also was very good, jumping rope, crunches/situps, pushups etc.   Jye --- On Sat, 11/1/08, Zisheged@aol.com wrote: I remember back in 1963 as a green belt, our instructor was appaled by our flabby midsections (present company included). His idea of building powerful midsections was to face an opponent of similar skill level and rank and exchange 10 roundhouse kicks to the gut and return. Eventually, we built powerful midsections. On route however, a few students threw up and never returned. That was Moo Duk Kwan in 1963. How fortunate for students today that we now do crunches and sit-ups. When we do demonstrations, I have my son who is my Assistant give his roundhouses. He just LOVES to roundhouse his "old man"! Makes for a great demo and besides at 59 I developed a six pack. Hapkido Master at QEB, Warrant Officer Tevita Teu said this was the first time officers from all three institutions were graduating together. He said of the 78 participants, 11 were police officers, 10 prison officers and 51 military officers including five female officers. Warrant Officer Teu has been teaching Hapkido since 1988 and is a proud black belt holder since 1991. The participants were judged in several aspects of the Korean martial art. Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama along with Prisons Commissioner Brigadier Iowane Naivalarua and Land Force Commander Colonel Pita Driti presented the participants with their red belts and certificates. The annual Korea Open, which takes place at the Suwon Gymnasium, is sanctioned by the World Taekwondo Federation and organized by the Korea Taekwondo Association. Since its inception in 2005, the Korea Open has become of the well-established international taekwondo open competitions. In 2005 and 2006, the WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, which were inaugurated in 2006, were held immediately prior to the Korea Open. Unlike previous Korea Open, poomsae matches were newly introduced and kyorugi and poomsae matches are divided into Korean and non-Korean parts. Those who finished first and second place in poomsae and kyorugi parts will compete in the Champion's Match on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5, respectively. The opening ceremony of the Korea Open was held at the Suwon Symnasium on Nov. 1, drawing such ranking taekwondo officials as WTF President Chungwon Choue; Mr. Joon-pyo Hong, president of the Korea Taekwondo Association; Mr. Dai-soon Lee, vice president of the WTF and chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, as well as Suwon Mayor Yong-seo Kim. "Taekwondo is Korea's gift to the world and it is no longer a sport solely for Koreans," said WTF President Choue in his congratulatory speech. "At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, a total of 128 athletes from 64 countries competed for 32 medals, of which athletes from 22 countries, including Afghanistan, won at least one medal. This demonstrates that technical levels of taekwondo have been evenly enhanced throughout the world and the fairness in taekwondo competitions has much improved." Dr. Choue said, "As a means to contribute to world peace through taekwondo and to give hope and dreams to youth around the world, the WTF launched the Taekwondo Peace Corps project this summer, which dispatched teams of taekwondo instructors to seven regions in five countries." "In the coming winter, the WTF plans to dispatch the second Taekwondo Peace Corps to more countries for about two months." "With your support and affection, I am certain that our endeavor will have a positive effect on keeping taekwondo in the Olympic program after 2016 and forwards and in the 25 core sports," Dr. Choue said. KTA President Joon-pyo Hong said in his opening message that "The Korea Open is to promote friendship and technical exchange among taekwondo athletes of the world. I hope every participant enjoys the event to enhance the understanding of Korean history and culture." To commemorate the Korea Open, Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister In-chon Yu sent a congratulatory message, in which he said that "Based on the Taekwondo Promotion Basic Plan, the Korean government is doing its utmost to promote taekwondo as a global cultural asset, representing Korea, and as a multi cultural brand of tradition and culture beyond a mere sport." "The Korean government will continue to expand its assistance to make the Olympic sport of taekwondo, which originated in Korea, beloved by more people of the world, especially by the youth as the future of taekwondo." --__--__-- Message: 5 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Mon, 03 Nov 2008 12:16:56 -0500 From: aburrese@aol.com Subject: [The_Dojang] Armor Plated with Mark Hatmaker - a review Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I posted a review and video clip of Armor Plated with Mark Hatmaker on my Attack Back blog: http://www.burrese.com/attackbackblog.html Yours in Training, Alain www.burrese.com --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
