Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Jay, in hapkido we spend A LOT of time on joint manipulation techniques and the most important thing about to stretch them out REALLY good before and after work on the mats with a partner. Every technique that can be done against someone has a stretch associated with it. If that is done nothing else should be needed. Do you do those? Jere R. Now I guess we can call them plane ranks. I am surprised that it took 6 months. Usually it happens before the wheels touch the ground. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: James O'Connor To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] RE: joint recovery? I have some wrist stretches I do myself before starting, maybe not extensively enough --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Master Mark Seidel" To: Cc: Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2008 16:41:50 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] time in rank Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I think the point of mind time vs. practice time is being missed. Mind time comes from years of contemplation, observation, meditation and maturity as a martial artist, not just the skill of the physical art. Take the Baltimore Ravens football team's new Quarter Back Joe Flacco his physical skills are impressive but his mind skills need years of maturing to catch up to a Bret Farve. Most MA Instructors have never been in a real fight, what they have mastered would never work under true adrenaline response conditions where fine motor skills do not work. Years of practicing a life style of peace serve you better to avoid ever needing to use it(martial force) in the first place. Martial Artists with real combat experience know exactly what I mean when fighting next to someone fresh out of a Military Academy vs an enlisted man with 10 years real combat training. Rank can sometime be just that, "RANK" pardon the pun. Time however can only be measured by itself.
