I just wanted to take a moment to wish a happy Thanksgiving Day to those that celebrate it. While I have been unemployed for 18 months and went through major health issues with mom, when I look around and see all those less fortunate than myself, and see my own life through the eyes of a self-examined life, I see so many things to be thankful for. Boy you brought back memories!? When I trained in MDK back in 1963, we started to trim doboks at green belt level. My mother sewed the trim on everyone's dobok in my group. Trim came in green, brown, red and black came pre-trimmed. I wonder how it is today? Can you buy trimmed doboks commercially?? Here's a pet gripe...schools that give students black poncho trimmed doboks when they are color belts!? I know I'm making a big deal here, but I'm very conservative. I have been in Korea and trained there for 13 months. During the time I was there it was common practice to see people practice 2 or 3 days a week for an hour and at the end of 12 months they would be a black belt. This was on base and at the off base clubs as well. The MDK trimmed dobok does closely resemble those uniforms. As was mentioned, I also recall having to trim our own doboks in green, blue & red. They weren't available commercially, as I recall, so you trimmed your own. You tore off the green trim and replaced it with blue, then did the same @ red. Black trimmed doboks were available commercially back in the dark ages. So at black you got to toss the old dobok and replace it with a new one w/black trim.
