In fact, to the best of my knowledge Ed Sell is the only non-Korean to ever get a kukkiwon 9th dan. Yup...rules are different for us alright. Either we follow these guidelines of the ordinal rank recapitulating the time interval or we simply make out own American martial art. I personally am in favor of both. I am willing to follow the rules but would love for Americans to have their own unique set of forms, fighting style and American headquarters. I know I'm in the minority on this one. Some mom's also get into the act. And, yes there are some suppliers who sell trimmed uniforms. Boldlook is where I shop, but you must be a studio owner and set up a biz account with them. And I distinctly recall dying belts, too. Master Boyle, if you see this, is that your recollection also? Depending on the herbs used, and yes it does work, the odor can be on the seven day wear plan. I used to get some stuff in miami and it worked wonders. Good thing stealth wasn't part of my job though because you'd have smelled me coming a mile away and no soap got that odor off. Of course, the alternative was worse so I'll deal with the odor. If you look at the formula for force and compare the actual number of joules outputted, then it becomes clear that certain body mechanics add little so why do them? Because with repetition you develop strength and speed. You teach neural pathways the most efficient way to do a movement. In rotating (supinating) the wrist for example, you exercise both the forearm and upper arm - both are crucial to developing strength. One thing our predecessors seemed very good at was developing strength and edurance. Maybe their methods were primitive but it seems they generally had a method to their madness. Might be an interesting topic of research when I finish my dissertation, which will be a long way - in part because I have no idea what I'm doing. lol. But I think a scientific evaluation with a repeatable protocol would be very illuminating. anyone aware of any such work - peer reviewed only?
