I think we need to keep in mind that people seek a higher rank for many reasons. As has been pointed out in a post several days back, rank is sort of like a college degree--it brings some credibility(not sure who posted that point, else I would give credit). There are special circumstances where I think it would be OK to skip a rank, but I'm in agreement with many here that most of the time it's just disgusting. Having said all that, we also need to keep in mind that we (the TKD community) enable this sort of thing by placing so much emphasis on rank, testing, etc.... I place the constant desire for high rank that many seem to have right in the same category with flashy uniforms, flashy poomse/technique, and an urge to show off. I understand that it sells and gains students, but many seem to take it further than that. Seems to go against the "building of charactor" that many instructors advertise doesn't it? Anyway---I guess my point is that people rise or fall to the level of expectations, and to the examples that we set. But hey, I guess if you someone can say that TKD is a 2000 year old martial art even though we used to do the same kata as Shotokan and Shito Ryu, then that person can say they're whatever rank they choose to be. I didn't know these were completed. Has anyone viewed them? When it first starts out it seems harmless, but as it goes on, I think you'll agree with me that the last so called master is a wicked mofo!!!!     http://www.joost.com/33f7slo/t/RAIDERS-OF-THE-LOST-KUNG-FU#id=33f7slo   Jye --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Sat, 13 Dec 2008 09:23:12 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Cc: itf-taekwondo@yahoogroups.com Subject: [The_Dojang] TKD? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Just a thought...if ITF and others can now get kukkiwon certificates and if at the same time in getting those certificates they can move up in rank; do we need to have a merger between ITF and WTF? Seems to me that in short order there will be no need.
