I've been practicing TKD for twenty some years, but my martial arts foundation is Temple Boxing (since 1969 to today). The way we look at forms in TB is VERY different from the way we look at poomse in TKD. Just interested to hear thoughts from dedicated martial artists like those on this forum. Thanks to all in advance!! J. Christopher Aaron Smith, 34, of Broadleaf Drive, pleaded guilty in Onslow Superior Court to second-degree sex offense and four counts of indecent liberties with a minor. When his active prison sentence expires, he will have to spend two years on intensive probation, register as a sex offender and submit to satellite monitoring for life, according to a ruling by Superior Court Judge Jack Hooks Jr. Authorities say Smith molested two girls under the age of 10 while they were students at his Tae Kwon Do academy at 1368 Piney Green Road. He removed their clothes, touched them inappropriately and exposed his private parts to them. He also exposed himself to other students in the bathroom of his business, according to statements made in court and court documents. After Smith was arrested by the Onslow County Sheriff's Department in June 2007 on charges of molesting the two girls, a third victim, a boy who was under the age of 6 when Smith molested him, came forward. Prosecutors said Smith repeatedly molested the boy from June 2003 until August 2004. Smith put his hands down the boy's underpants and touched his genitals, warrants state. The boy, also a student of Smith's, told his parents about Smith molesting him during martial arts classes, authorities said. "He talked to his dad, and the dad called the detective and the detective took over the case," Sheriff Ed Brown said. Sheriff's Sgt. John Getty arrested Smith again a few days later and charged him with a slew of other child molestation charges. "After what he did, I hope that he does not get out," a family member of one of Smith's victims told The Daily News. "I mean I hope true justice is done." Smith will be subject to new state laws that took effect Dec. 1. Those laws include the requirement that registered sex offenders report to the local sheriff's office in person within three days of moving to a new home. The offender will also have to provide authorities with written notification of address changes, changes to academic status or employment status at colleges and universities and intent to move out of state. Registered sex offenders are prohibited from accessing commercial social networking Web sites that permit minors to become members or maintain personal Web pages. Offenders are forbidden from legally changing their names. And offenders whose victims were younger than 16 are prohibited from being within 300 feet of schools, children's museums, child care centers, nurseries and playgrounds. --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2008 04:12:14 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Martial arts instructor sentenced to prison To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net This is makes me wonder how the dynamics of some MA training facilities might change. I remember when I was 8-9 and after a rigorous classes, I'd go to the back to change, and in the back were some showers, and it was the norm to see guys naked. Now this makes me wonder if because of all this mess going on with molesting kids will have some places close the showers down? I would think a perve would use that shower as an excuse of why he was naked around a child.   Jye --- On Wed, 12/17/08, Ray wrote: Martial arts instructor sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison December 16 LINDELL KAY Jacksonville, NC A Jacksonville martial arts instructor pleaded guilty Tuesday to several counts of molesting male and female students under the age of 10 and was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison. The WTF-promoted poomsae championships, which take place at the ASKI Sport Hall, will continue until Dec. 18. It marked the first time that the poomsae championships took place outside Korea. The inaugural poomsae championships were held in Seoul, Korea in 2006, with the second event in Incheon, Korea in 2007. The opening day of the championships featured four events. Korea won three gold medals, while Spain clinched one gold. A total of 16 golds are up for grabs. In the men’s individual junior division (between 14-18 years), Korea’s Se-hoon Jang took the gold medal, while the silver went to host Turkey’s Ali Kemal Ustabas. The bronze was shared by Spain’s Juan Miguel Gomez Gomez and Iran’s Milad Yaghobi. In the afternoon, there was an opening ceremony of the 3rd WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships. “I have a particular affection for this annual event that exhibits mastery of moves that form the core elements of taekwondo by all age groups from juniors to seniors. I could not be happier to see poomsae being a distinguished discipline of taekwondo in an international sporting field, including the 2009 Belgrade Universiade,” said WTF President Chungwon Choue during the opening ceremony. He said, “Poomsae reaches out to all enthusiasts around the world, not only sport elites or competent athletes. It features a true global sport-for-all not limited by gender, age, or disability.
