Nor did I know the curriculum being taught. Candidly, that does cause a bit of a disconcerting feeling because this type of seminar is going to run me five bills by the time I get travel, hotel, and seminar paid for. $500 is a lot of money when you're not sure what's in store. I had met Master Steve Seo while in Korea but that was a quick hello kinda thing as he was very busy being one of the hosts to a lot of foreigners. Master Sullivan's school was easy to find. Great location in a strip mall with huge Taekwondo sign. Pull up and the three gentlemen inside turned and smiled as I walked to the door. It was Master Sullivan, Master Allison and another gentleman but I missed his name. (Please, no offense, I wear a name tag so I don't forget my own name ). Dress out and visit with people as they arrive. Everyone seemed very pleasant. 10AM arrives and Master Seo starts very promptly - I'm a stickler for tardiness so I sincerely appreciate his punctuality. Brief formal bow in and then onto some brisk warm-ups. Session starts with some hoshinsool (if I remember correctly, I didn't take notes). Good stuff and I felt some nice twists and locks. Master Steve Kincade and his wife came - so I did end up knowing someone. I worked with Master Kincade and Master Allison most the weekend. I had a good sweat going within 30 minutes. Not a "smoked sweat" - just that good steady workout kinda sweat. The "glad I brought another uniform" kinda sweat. Seminar flowed pretty fast with Master Seo always demonstrating. Then he'd walk around and assist people. He demonstrated on me once after I specifically asked about a particular shoulder lock. Well - it works. We did empty hand form and danbong form. (If anyone knows the name of that empty hand form - please let me know) Did parry drills, passing drills, come alongs, judo throws (with Hapkido flavor I'd never seen), and other things. Good time. I really appreciated Master Seo's input and candor about what worked well and what was tweaked to make more efficient after competing against other arts. While he has a lot of firsthand knowledge being the grandmaster's son, he is still very approachable and humble. The history he speaks of is interesting but he's quick to say that's already happened and let's train hard today. While talking with instructors after Saturday's seminar, he drove home a few times that it was critical to offer a better product. The future looks good for WKF with what they have in the works and I'm glad to be associated with them through Grand Master Timmerman's NKMAA. Saturday night a bunch of us went to dinner at a nice five star Korean restaurant. Master Sullivan was an excellent host and invited everyone to go. Then he paid for it. Far, far too kind. That evening a few of sat in the lobby of the hotel and visited. Good stuff and it was interesting listening. Sunday rolls around and I'm late! I hate being late. A buddy of mine is in the final stages of terminal cancer and his wife talked/cried to me about a hour Saturday night. I tell ya, it's a dreaded disease. Makes ya wanna hug your kids and loved ones. Anywho, I couldn't go to sleep after talking to her and finally dozed off. Last time I looked at the clock it was after 3AM and I taken a pretty decent beating earlier that day...so I was already tired. Woke up at 7:45AM with the seminar starting at 8AM. Had to shower, pack , and check out so I got there about a hour late. Some review from Saturday but some new stuff too. Worked on a sword form that was pretty nice. Be nicer if I could do it correctly. Went to lunch with a few guys from the seminar and they treated me like "one of theirs" - it was nice. Then I drove for about five hours to get home. I tell ya, it was a longggg five hours. I ate ice all the way to keep from dozing off. I didn't even unpack when I got home - took a hour power nap instead. Anywho, that's a brief recap. Master Sullivan was first class - thank you. Master Allison was gracious and I'm excited about going to his April 25-26 event with Dojunim Ji. Master Steve Seo conducts a good solid seminar and I'll try to catch the seminar in Jackson, MS on July 18-19 hosted by Master Kincade. Hope to see you guys at our event April 17-19. We went to elementary school together in Ozone Park, NY. I can't believe I read about these guys on the internet when they sat right next to me in school. In fact, Ronnie Trucchio, was so tough, that on my school papers I wrote his name instead of mine. Hey, I'm not saying this guy should be revered. I'm saying that sometimes we are the product of our environment. This is why I started martial arts at an early age. There were psychopaths like Ronnie Trucchio who would bust open your head for merely looking at them the wrong way. And, I only state this now cause he is in jail. Otherwise, I would keep my lips sealed or get a "shive" when least expected. To think that sports and education were my way out. Thank God for that. On the other hand, my Italian godmother made the best pasta in town. That was when pasta was spaghetti. Ah, forgetaboutit ! From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Ronald Joseph Trucchio (born 1951) also known as "One Armed Ronnie" is a New York mobster with the Gambino crime family who used to run the infamous crew known as The Ozone Park Boys. [1]Born in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn Trucchio was run over by a car as a child and his arm was partially paralyzed. He was raised in Ozone Park, Queens. He is the son of Murder, Inc. Gambino crime family mob associate Frank Trucchio. That accident led to his nickname of "One-Armed Ronnie". In the mid-1990s, Trucchio was promoted to caporegime and given control over the Ozone Boys. Based in Queens, the Ozone Park Boys specialized in illegal gambling, loansharking, bookmaking, fraud and wire fraud. Trucchio and his son Alphonse Trucchio ran an illegal gambling operation that grossed approximately $30 million a year, with betters who placed wagers as large as $15,000.   Indictment & prison   In January 2003, Trucchio was indicted on charges of operating a $30 million a year bookmaking and illegal gambling racket. The indictment stated that Trucchio conspired to engage in racketeering, murder, robbery, arson, extortion, kidnapping, drug trafficking, tampering with witnesses, retaliating against witnesses, credit card fraud, intrastate travel in aid of racketeering activity, interference with commerce by threats and violence, interstate transportation of stolen property, and thefts from interstate shipments. In April 2003, Trucchio pleaded guilty and was sentenced on August 11, 2005 to life in prison and fined $250,000. Ronald Trucchio is serving his sentence at the United States Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He has no release date.[3] Trucchio reportedly underwent hip replacement surgery a few years earlier and is not in robust health.>     --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
