I used to go to college with a good friend of mine who happened to be a crown in the Latin Kings; a crown is a high ranking leader. If you look at us we both looked like 2 average joes going to school, but the people who knew us knew we were anything but average joes. My point is some people think mafia or wiseguy and they think slick back hair speaking broken english, etc. When they think gang members they think bandanas around their head, thug looking mofos. But what I can say from experience on both topics is never judge a book by the cover and always understand that you never truly know people. my sisters have absolutely no idea how heavy into gang life I was...and my other classmates had no idea my friend and I were in gangs and they especially had no idea of how high ranked we were.   On a side note- I was dating an italian woman and I noticed some pictures of her father; a real corny looking guy- big curly hair, goofy smile like sonny bono....lol. When I met him in person.....he looked nothing like his picture, big a$$ tattoo of mary on his forearm, hair was black as hell somewhat spike, moustache and goutee(sp?) and everything about him spelled out death....lol. No doubt he was into some $%^& just a funny story. --- On Tue, 1/27/09, Ken McDonough wrote: From: Ken McDonough Subject: [The_Dojang] Martial Arts and grammar school friends To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 10:27 AM On the thread of molestations via martial arts instructors, not to beat a dead horse, but I recently received a letter from this guy below. We went to elementary school together in Ozone Park, NY. I can't believe I read about these guys on the internet when they sat right next to me in school. In fact, Ronnie Trucchio, was so tough, that on my school papers I wrote his name instead of mine. Hey, I'm not saying this guy should be revered. I'm saying that sometimes we are the product of our environment. This is why I started martial arts at an early age. There were psychopaths like Ronnie Trucchio who would bust open your head for merely looking at them the wrong way. And, I only state this now cause he is in jail. Otherwise, I would keep my lips sealed or get a "shive" when least expected. To think that sports and education were my way out. Thank God for that. On the other hand, my Italian godmother made the best pasta in town. That was when pasta was spaghetti. I have been a hapkidoist for 12 years. I just joined a jiu jitsu school for reasons that are irrelevant to this post. Maybe just I'm inexperienced, and my perspective will change with more time on the mat, but it seems to me, that jiu jitsu practitioners fight as if they don't have testicles to protect. It seems like they are always open. Am I imagining this? I plan to ask about this at my new school when the time is right, but I wanted to hear your opinions too. thanks, jeremy --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
