A slander on printers!?! (I'm into my 39th year of printing and publishing.) I'll have to call you out on the mat...wait, I may be a printer but I didn't let the ink go to my head that badly. Using a sample size larger than indicated by sampling theory, but not every other page, I found no spelling errors. Perhaps an error based on the type of Romanization one might use and I found one sentence where the word "from" would have fit in nicely, but no wide spread spelling errors. Perhaps the errors of which you speak are clustered in one or two particular sections as opposed to spread throughout the book, but you did say on almost every page. I find no evidence of that. Now, regarding typos, I believe the book was printed in China. As a person that used to manage a tech pubs organization I know first hand that what is submitted to a printer is not 100% what comes out the other end. Yes, as part of the process you get a review copy to correct and return, but 700+ pages is a lot to proofread. That said, what other writer on Hapkido and/or the history of Hapkido can you point to that is more respected? Or even half as respected? I know of one or two that think of themselves in that category, but they are widely acknowledged as total nut cases. Fwiw... Dr Kimms book has more history but Master Tedeschi goes into application and more detail about technique. If I'm grabbing a book off the shelf for clarification, I'll reach for Tedeschi's first. Bigger photos in Dr Kimm's is nice though. My family and I have been in the Association for a over little 4 years. As to the Association; they are good solid folks. It is more like joining a family than an organization. The training principles taught help young people to make better decisions and to listen to their conscience rather than peer pressure. As to the martial arts side; Do not be fooled, there is NO BEST art. As a retired US Air Force Security Forces Non-Commissioned Officer (read policeman), I can tell you the principles and techniques work. I have just finished reading an article in Black Belt Magazine by Dave Lowry (May 2009) in which he talks about the “best”. In the article he points out that legitimacy in derived from the art not the headquarters. It is deprived not from the documents on the wall, but from the fellowship of the school. I personally know the head of the Arkansas schools and most of the instructors, they are good people. No. 09/221 March 17, 2009 To: Presidents, WTF Member National Associations Presidents and Secretaries General, WTF Continental Unions WTF Council and Auditors Re: Electronic Protectors Dear Colleagues, Under leadership of the President, WTF formed a special ad-hoc committee for Electronic Protectors whose mission was to intensively analyze the status of electronic protectors and recommend future policy of WTF. Following a series of meetings and studies, the ad-hoc committee recommended that the WTF take initiative to use WTF-approved electronic protector at the 2009 WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships and 1st WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships, subject to post-evaluation of the ad-hoc committee and its working group to determine whether or not to use electronic protectors at the future WTF-promoted championships. The next meeting of ad-hoc committee and its working group will be held on May 6, 2009 in Lausanne, Switzerland where other companies producing electronic protectors will be invited to demonstrate their systems to the members of ad-hoc committee and its working group. Nine one hour slots comprised of 25 sessions were available to sit in on. I'm not sure what the official count was, but at one of the events where most of the attendees were in one room I counted about 150 people. Not bad for a down economy. Grandmaster West taught sessions on pressure points and a special class for Hapkido black belts. Grandmaster Hildebrand (MuSul Kwan) taught sessions on cane techniques. Master Thomas (KHF head in the US) taught off balancing techniques. Master McHenry (TSD) taught sneaky techniques (seems like a excellent topic for Master Mac :) Master Hilland taught palm strikes (I think). Master Kirsh taught techniques to use in tight quarters. Master New taught punch defense. Master Reed taught how to workout hard and enjoy it less, and less and less... (you have to be there) Master Smith taught grabs and throws. Master Munyon (ITF) taught kicking. Master Borucki taught short stick (dan bong). West's Hapkido staff taught speed takedowns. Me, myself and I taught handgun disarms. We were all honored to witness the promotion of Master Borucki to 6th Dan Hapkido! And a grand time was had by all. Any typos are all mine. The 31st International Hapkido Conference is in September 2009. Keep an eye on hapkido.com for details.
