They doubted their power, but all three successfully broke the panels. ``I actually did it!'' said Xu Na, 27 of China, who was one of them. A resident in Korea since 2006, Xu joined a tour following the advice of her Korean instructor at Yeoksam Global Village Center. ``I've been living in Seoul for a long time, but I haven't seen much of the city yet and it is a nice opportunity for sightseeing at a reasonable price.'' A professional tour guide gives background information on the bus while moving from site to site. ``Taekwondo is the most popular attraction for foreign tourists. They can go visit temples and royal tombs in other places, but watching a taekwondo performance is the unique part of this program,'' says Lee Min-hwa, 28, the tour guide in charge of the Gangnam tour. ``Generally, tourists to Seoul only visit palaces and other tourist attractions on the north side of the Han River. But this program gives them a chance to experience the Gangnam area.'' Started in September 2008, the Gangnam tour is gaining popularity. Co- organized by Gangnam District Office and tour company Cosmonjin, the bus tour was offered once a week originally, but is now offered twice ― on Tuesday and Friday. In addition to the regular itinerary, experience programs such as kimchi making are available upon group reservation. ``We usually have an average of 22 tourists per tour. The number has decreased slightly due to the recent influenza and North Korea's threat,'' an official of Cosmojin said. ``We try to make the tour different from the general Seoul tour and include an old-style market at Eunma Apartments and Kukkiwon.'' The tour consists of two courses _ the morning tour visits Seonjeong Royal Tomb, Gangnam-gu office, Kukkiwon and Bongeunsa Temple, while the afternoon tour goes to the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, Rodeo Street in Apgujeong-dong, galleries in Cheongdam-dong or Eunma Apartments market and the Kimchi Museum in the COEX. Each course costs 10,000 won per person and tourists can take a full-day tour combining two of them. Generally, the tour is provided in English, but Japanese and Chinese are also available upon request. The main target of the program is businessmen and their families who visit the Gangnam area for business and want to take a quick tour during their free time, according to the tour agency. ``We publicize the program at conventions and hotels to find a niche market,'' the agency official said. ``We also receive many guests from other Asian regions due to the Korean wave, or hallyu.'' The district wants to show more of its charms by expanding the tour service with more routes. ``We plan to create a tour program that focuses on hallyu stars since many entertainment agencies and star- related buildings such as Gorilla in the Kitchen owned by Bae Yong-jun are in our district,'' Kim Seong-hoi, the district's public information official said. ``We are also exploring the possibility of connecting Japanese group tourists to the Gangnam tour.'' --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sun, 14 Jun 2009 16:50:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Jye nigma To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] video clip: TKD stuff Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Tae Kwon Do One Step sparring and Escapes from grabs.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C0AMyKzdVg&feature=rec-HM-fresh+div   This was interesting. Korea’s female national team clinched the title, followed by Russia. The 2009 WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships ended in a great success after four days of heated competitions in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 14, 2009. Turkey and Russia showed their respective supremacy in taekwondo, while host Azerbaijan emerged as a strong taekwondo power. In the women’s division, Korea won the gold medal, while Russia clinched the silver. The bronze went to Turkey and Morocco. Korea managed to win over France 3-2 in a quarterfinal match before advancing to the semifinals, in which it edged Turkey 3-2. In the men’s division, Turkey brushed aside a stiff challenge of Iran to grab the gold medal. Iran had to settle for the silver, while Azerbaijan and Russia shared the bronze medal. The World Cup featured WTF-recognized electronic protectors, the first of its kind in the WTF-promoted event. It also introduced an instant video replay system under new WTF Competition Rules. All these and others drew great interest from both the public and the global media. No protests were recorded at the 2009 WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships, with each team fielding five athletes. All the competitions were conduced in a very orderly, dynamic atmosphere. The World Cup drew 23 male and 23 female teams from a total of 28 countries. After three days of round-robin preliminary rounds, the top eight team in the men’s and women’s division advanced to the quarterfinal round. The Good Fighting Spirit Awards went to Canada, Great Britain and Egypt, while Uzbekistan, Brazil and China received Active Participation Prizes. The Best Referee Awards went to Mr. Song Chul Kim of Canada, Ms. Jatuporn Hemwonno of Thailand, Mr. Samuel Michael Loiacono of Australia, Mr. Serge Sembona of France, and Ms. Barbara Ruth Marian of Canada. --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Mon, 15 Jun 2009 07:19:59 -0700 (PDT) From: jeff kiral To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Kids programs Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Thank you for the help, all of you. I am looking to purchase a nice traditional Korean instrument like a kayageum, daegeum, tanso, etc., but am very wary of ordering online since I can't be sure of the quality of what I get. Has anyone had any luck with purchasing traditional Korean instruments and can offer any suggestions or directions? Obviously the best idea would be to go to Korea to get them, but I don't think that's feasible at this point. :) Thanks in advance! *bows* - Bert Edens Springdale, Arkansas --__--__-- Message: 9 Date: Mon, 15 Jun 2009 08:31:30 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] from TKD Times Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Tell us what you think!
