The only video in this list that had good knee/foot alignment was the first one, and that was not 100% of the time. His knee torqued farther than his toes were pointing, stretching the MCL & LCL; these ligaments are not that stable and heavy torquing like this can cause major damage. The rest of the videos showed exercises where the knees were bent too far past 90 degrees and way to far past the toes. This is asking for an ACL rupture, PCL tear, and some meniscial damage. This guy seems quite young, and has good musculature, but he's headed for some significant injuries doing the exercises like this without proper body mechanics. The last video showing the one-legged squat jump onto the table is really asking for injury. Again, kettlebells are great work-out tools, but you need to be sure you have proper body mechanics for training, or you are risking injury. Dr. Julie Howard No virus found in this outgoing message. I picked up Enter the Kettlebell!, by Pavel. Funny and informative, imo. "Enjoy the pain". Taekwondo, based largely on the points system, has had its share of misdirected points and calls, and the new digital system which uses sensors in the headgear and chest gear of combatants will greatly decrease the number of point arguments. After a successful trial at the 2009 World Cup Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, the federation has decided to make the digital system official. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2009 07:04:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Ken McDonough To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] GM Ji and New Jersey Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Read the GM Ji info and the cross country move from West Coast to East Coast.   What a culture shock.   A true way to tell if a person is from Jersey, you ask "What exit you from ?"   Cost of living much better down in Texas. In fact where Ray lives is considered the one of the highest cost of living places in the U.S.   Just added a few Cybex Machines for my gym. University of Texas closed their gym for doctors. Picked up a nice Smith Machine for a penny.   Regards,   Big K down Big Texas way...   --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2009 08:10:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Jye nigma Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] RE: Fw: kettlebells (Jye nigma) To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I noticed his knee over toes especially in the 'shaolin-like' posture. What stood out to me was the snap with the kettlebells. I've never used them but an associate of mine in the internal arts is considering using them for training in his art (TCC).   The table jumping....I don't think it's a part of training. My impression was that he was just demostrating his jumping power with one leg. I found it impressive to see how much power generated in one leg. I passed along your thoughts to my associate. As for me, I like this type of training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpIq2Y2paFg&feature=channel   Jye --- On Tue, 6/30/09, Julie Howard wrote: From: Julie Howard Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Fw: kettlebells (Jye nigma) To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 6:43 PM Jye posted videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3AeJwu9ztY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOUSYTNCQFY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsRur68fmVI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXxOdtfV97Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcvHaRaqJNo Gotta see this one. ******************** Kettlebells can be great training & strengthening tools, however, the demonstrations in these videos shows some poor body mechanics and this guy is just waiting for his knees to blow out someday.  The only video in this list that had good knee/foot alignment was the first one, and that was not 100% of the time.  His knee torqued farther than his toes were pointing, stretching the MCL & LCL; these ligaments are not that stable and heavy torquing like this can cause major damage.
