Sure. Keep in mind that every year at every event there are folks, usually parents, that express concerns about the judging. Too bad there isn't some type of electronic hogu that would work for poomsae as it does for sparring. A total of 41 male and 46 female athletes from 28 countries competed in five poomsae divisions: the men’s individual, the women’s individual, the men’s team, the women’s team, and the mixed pair division. For the first time ever in Universiade history, poomsae was included in the official program of the 2009 Universiade. Taekwondo "kyorugi" or sparring has been on the official program of the Universiade since the 2003 Universiade in Daegu, Korea. FISU President Dr. George Killian and FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond watched the final matches of poomsae, together with WTF President Chungwon Choue, showing their great interest in taekwondo poomsae. Korea won three golds, one silver and one bronze in the poomsae competitions, which took place at the Belgrade Fair Hall 3, followed by Spain with two golds and one bronze. Vietnam came next with two silvers and one bronze, followed by China with two silvers. Egypt clinched three bronze medals, while Italy, Iran, host Serbia and Mexico took home one bronze medal each. Laura Kim from Spain and Kisung Lee from Korea became the first double gold medalists in the taekwondo competition of the 2009 Universiade. A total of 251 male and 179 female athletes from 70 countries are participating in both taekwondo poomsae and kyorugi competitions at the 2009 Universiade, with 21 golds up for grabs. In terms of the numbers of participating athletes and medals, taekwondo ranked third after athletics and swimming at the 2009 Universiade. The competition results in the poomsae competitions are as follows: Man’s Individual Division Gold : Kisung Lee (Korea) Silver : Dinh Toan Nguyen (Vietnam) Bronze : Shaker Ahmed Elhamy (Egypt) Del Rio Mikel Martinez (Spain) Woman’s Individual Division Gold : Laura Kim (Spain) Silver : Chorong Hwang (Korea) Bronze : Ammar Rohanda El-Said (Egypt) Stefania Pinga (Italy) Men’s Team Division Gold : Korea Silver : Vietnam Bronze : Egypt Iran Women’s Team Division Gold : Korea Silver : China Bronze : Serbia Mexico Mixed Division Gold : Spain Silver : China Bronze : Vietnam Korea --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
