On KB's...yes, I use them and I also recommend them. Pavel's book 'Enter the Kettlebell' is a good place to start, and is WAY better than the KB book he put out about 10 years ago. Good technical instruction for beginners, and all the techniques and workouts are based around single bell work (so this is easy on the pocketbook). Are they magic? No, they're just another tool like barbells and dumbbells. The advantage is that they're generally more portable and take up less space than barbells and dumbbells. You can also do a lot with them...swings, snatches, presses, cleans, jerks, get-ups...lots of variety. The disadvantage is that once you get used to the weight of your KB(s) the only option is to buy a heavier bell(s) or up your reps to infinity. I don't consider them a strength training tool, per se, unless you're talking about some of the bulldog bells that weigh 88lbs, 106lbs, etc...yeah, you have to be a stud to do much with those. They are excellent for training strength endurance and overall stamina. I consider them a good tool for martial artists and fighters, in general. I won't get into Pavel's "Hardstyle" vs. "Girevoy Sport" techniques...you can catch that drama elsewhere on the net. For most folks, swings and presses are a good starting place. I think the KB swing is one of THE best exercises...period. Give them a try...just don't drink the Kool-Aid.
