What galls me is when a 5th Dan gets in your face because one of their students didn't get first place. I understand parents (who aren't students) advocating for their kids, but their teachers should know better. We tell our students that the judges decision is final, no mater how we "feel" about it. Losing is an important lesson, and anyone in the martial arts should have learned that as a white belt. Winning is great, but striving to be YOUR best is the goal we teach. dave weller On Jul 8, 2009, at 7:48 PM, the_dojang- request@martialartsresource.net wrote: > Naw, I think I'd rather just have the parents screaming at me > because ANYONE > could see Little Johnny's stances were the best of the group :) > > *bows* > > - Bert Edens --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Ferdinand \"Fernando\" Perez" To: Date: Thu, 9 Jul 2009 10:55:22 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Looking for a MA School in Jefferson City/Columbia MO - Who caters to special needs students Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hey Everyone! Note: I'm posting this for a fellow Martial Artist (Facebook: Nicole Cloud). I need your help! One of our former students Joseph Brown needs to find a studio so he can start training again. We started Joe in his martial arts career by accepting his disability of cerebral palsy. By us giving him a chance his self esteem grew to the point where he is now attending college on his own. Joe and his patents moved to MO several years ago. When Joe moved we were able to find an instructor who would continue to work with Joe. I am so proud of him because in 2003 he earned his 1st Dan! Talk about a major accomplishment. Anyways, Joe's instructor is no longer teaching and he needs to find a new studio. He has had no training since 2003 and it is starting to show mentally. He continues to workout in his home, lifts weights, and uses a Nordic track, but he wants to be challenged in martial arts. Due to him not having an instructor Joe's self esteem is starting to become shaky. Joe has been trying to find a studio but no one is looking past his disability. With each rejection he is starting to think that no one will accept him. I spoke with Joe for over 2 hours the other night I promised him that we would do our best to find him a studio. We all have lots of contacts and I really need your help. Joe lives in the Jefferson City/Columbia, MO area. He is willing to drive to where anyone will take him. He uses canes to walk, but unfortunately the disorder is taking its toll on him and he rides in an automatic chair most of the time now. He also has a service dog that is with him at all times too. He wants to find someone who is willing to training him in not just American Karate but ground fighting too. Joe's speech is very difficult to understand so the instructor will have to be patient with him. If you know of anyone Joe can call, write, etc please let me know. I just know there is someone out there and together we can find them! Thank you for all of your help. I know Joe thanks you too! God Bless, Nicole P.S. If you would like to add Joe as a friend he is under my friends as Joseph Brown! He would love to hear from all of you! --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray To: The_Dojang Date: Thu, 9 Jul 2009 15:07:45 -0700 Subject: [The_Dojang] Reminder: GM Jon Bais Knife Course Begins this Saturday Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Fwiw... Ray ================================= Begin forwarded message: From: Alex France Date: July 9, 2009 2:52:16 PM PDT Subject: [Eskrima] Reminder: GM Jon Bais Knife Course Begins this Saturday Reminder: Grand Maestro Jon Bais (Bais Tres Manos) begins his 3-session course on the Bais Baraw (Knife) this Saturday 6 PM to 9 PM in Hayward, CA. I've met many "experts" on the knife in the martial arts and in the "reality based combat" worlds. Jon's knowledge and real world experience with and against the knife are in the stratosphere. He was recruited by the Dept of Defense precisely because of that.
