You are so right Sir. I can still out dance a lot of younger people, and I when the youngsters are snoring... I still watch the sun come up at party times lol. GM Seriff is still going strong, and I love it :) Michael is right about there being a few less pages in the history books in my days. but we have people like yourselves making history now :) BTW, I am told the link I provided does not work. Please visit www.nkmaa.ca for information on the 2010 meeting of the Grand Masters. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Greetings, all... I've often said that if you hang around long enough with your instructor, he eventually has to test you so he doesn't look bad. Well, Saturday was my turn as I tested for my 3rd dan in TKD. It was all good, very challenging, with many challenging aspects, including beating up on a makiwara with punches and kicks while waiting for the color belts to finish things. The head judge just hated having us high ranks (one other black belt was testing for 3rd dan too) sitting around doing nothing. Even got to break some lumber, which is always fun (inward checking kick of 1 board at knee height, speed break of 2 boards with a palm heel, two boards with a shin kick and 2 boards with a backfist... Hit a board holder in the nose with that last technique, but I went through the target :)). Only visible wound (other than bruises that are associated with 15 hours of training at a camp on Friday, a firewalk Friday night, 2 hours of sleep, 9 hours of training Saturday and a four hour test Saturday night) is a nice shiner from my fellow 3rd dan candidate, who brought up that knee just a little too hard on one of his knife defenses. Shoulda seen it coming. :) Anyway, I long ago started doing reports for my testings, even though they weren't required, as I like to show that I'm learning something and not just getting annoying as I keep showing up to class. My thesis for this testing was development of a curriculum for students in a wheelchair. Naturally, that's a VERY broad spectrum, and since it's meant to show what I might have learned, not to be an end-all of curriculum, I narrowed the scope down to students with little / no use of their legs but good upper body strength. I haven't had the opportunity to test the curriculum, not only because I just finished it, but because we haven't had any students who fit that criteria. But I also believe in the "If you build it, they will come" (Yes, I know the movie quote was actually "he will"). If the public knows a school will adapt and train them regardless of their physical capabilities, it will draw more folks into the martial arts. OK, enough of that. The reason I'm posting is that I would like to humbly ask if anyone here would be willing to look over my thesis to offer suggestions and guidance, so I can continue to help it grow and evolve. Many people here have been training longer than I have and I know there is so much more I can learn. So if anyone is willing to give me some feedback, let me know, and I'll shoot the file out to you. I have it in Word and PDF format, but can certainly put it in any other format if desired. Thanks in advance for putting up with my rambling query... Now I just get to wait on my results :) *bows* - Bert Edens Butcher's Martial Arts Springdale, Arkansas --__--__-- Message: 5 From: Ray To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Looking for feedback... Date: Tue, 4 Aug 2009 14:23:30 -0700 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I, for one, am willing. Hopefully you'll get several other responses, too. But I'll be heading out of town soon for several days and so my review wouldn't happen for a couple of weeks. As I say hopefully others will also respond so that you can get quick reviews and feedback.
