Date: Sun, 4 Oct 2009 21:32:34 -0500 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net A high shin kick to someone's head will make them see stars. Duck or move back 6-12" and suddenly the aggressor may find themselves way, way over extended. High kicks are like high risk investments. If they pay off, it's HUGE dividends. If it doesn't, you typically lose everything. As we get older, we tend to take lower risk "investments". :) Sincerely, Thomas Gordon Master's Seminars April 16-18, 2010 www.GordonMartialArts.com/april --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Thomas Gordon" To: "Thomas Gordon" Date: Sun, 4 Oct 2009 21:48:43 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] ITF school Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Anyone know of an ITF school near Perth, Australia at the North River? Date: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 13:24:16 +0000 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Well put Thomas...I agree 100 percent..also high kicks work much better in a sparring situation because two people are moving around in an open area keeping a certain distance...in real deal scenarios it isn't quite like that...slippery floors, furniture in the way, no sparring shoes, and if it's really poppin off people are moving in on you and not standing at a prescribed distance..for instance...I was watching the "ultimate fighter" the other night and saw kimbo slice throw an upward knee to this guys midsection from the clinch--but at the time the other guy was driving him backwards...so by throwing the upward knee at that time all kimbo did was break his own balance and ended up with this guy on top of him...and it was all because he threw the knee and was on one leg moving backwards...kicking is great,,high kicking is cool...going home to your family is even better!! Increasing numbers are learning taekwondo in school as the sport is placed on curriculums around the world. Taekwondo is a mandatory subject in elementary schools in places as far apart as Sichuan and Hunan provinces in China. It is also offered on curriculums in Canada and the United States, and many more countries are expected to follow suit. World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President Chungwon Choue said, “Taekwondo is an effective educational tool for young people around the world and its value has been recognized by many countries outside Korea, where it originated. As proven by numerous studies, taekwondo training has significant educational effects, helps personal development and self-enhancement of the young. “In effect, this could help prevent them from becoming involved in delinquency, drugs, alcohol and violence. Taekwondo is not merely a sport, but encompasses excellent cultural values that cannot be learned from textbooks. It is an incredible source of dreams and hope for youth.” This view is echoed by comments made recently by Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, who spoke of “exemplary collaboration” between the WTF and the IOC and of the remarkable progress made since taekwondo became an Olympic sport in Sydney in 2000. Mr Rogge added: “If I make a comparison between Sydney 2000 and now, there is a huge change. You’ve been modern, you’ve been evolving. You have changed what was a rather conservative sport into a very modern dynamic sport.” The appeal to youth is one aspect of taekwondo’s versatility as a sport for all ages and levels of fitness. During a five-year program of reform by the WTF under the leadership of President Choue, different disciplines have been enhanced to ensure taekwondo is truly a ‘sport for all’ and to align it with the Olympic values. The combat discipline (kyorugi) is complemented by para-taekwondo (for athletes with a disability) and poomsae (a stylized non-combat version suitable for all). Each discipline has its own world championships and participation of all is encouraged, regardless of race, age, gender or disability. Taekwondo has some 70 million practitioners worldwide, and is growing rapidly, particularly in highly populated countries such as China and the United States, and the Muslim world. It is particularly appealing to Muslim women as they are able to wear the hijab (headscarf) during competition. In many countries it is the second most practiced sport, after football. Taekwondo features in all major sporting events. It has secured a place as a core sport in the 2016 Olympic Games and the first Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in 2010. It ranked third in terms of the number of medals offered after athletics and swimming at the 2009 Universiade, the global event for university students. Worldwide, the WTF has a global membership of 189 countries, and is striving to increase this to more than 200. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 10:17:10 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] New Era for Taekwondo Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Record 2009 World Championship TV Coverage Ushers in New Era for Taekwondo · Continuous efforts to increase TV and new media exposure succeed · More than 30 TV broadcasters across 5 continents will show entire 5 days of competition or highlights · Over 400 broadcast networks expected to screen news coverage of Championships The World Taekwondo Federation’s TV-Media strategy is coming to fruition at the forthcoming 2009 WTF World Taekwondo Championships through agreements on event coverage with a record number of broadcasters around the world. More than 30 TV broadcasters across 5 continents will take entire or partial coverage of the five days of competition, i.e. more than 12 hours of air time. Among them are Eurosport Asia, TLC Mexico, TRT Turkey, Arirang TV of Korea, SBS Sports of Korea, UK Sky Sports, USA Fuel and ESPN Middle East. A news and highlights package, which will be produced and distributed by the WTF from Copenhagen, will be relayed to 1,000 TV stations through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). In addition, a number of influential TV magazine programs are also expected to use event coverage in their weekly editions of October 20 to 25. As many negotiations are continuing over final highlights coverage, the figure is expected to increase in the next few days. WTF President Chungwon Choue said, “It is encouraging, because it signals that our strategic approach to transform taekwondo into a more exciting and media-friendly sport is working. But it is just a beginning. We will continue our utmost to cooperate with more broadcasters around the world, particularly in improving live coverage.” DR, of Denmark, is the host broadcaster for the 2009 World Taekwondo Championships which will be held in Copenhagen from October 14 to 18, 2009. Worldwide, the WTF has a global membership of 189 countries, and is striving to increase this to more than 200. --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2009 13:25:54 -0500 From: Eric Walker To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Yoga materials.
