GM Hwang on Yawara (was Re: Michael Echanis, fwiw) (Christopher Spiller) --__--__-- Message: 1 Date: Wed, 11 Nov 2009 21:27:27 -0800 (PST) From: Christopher Spiller To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] GM Hwang on Yawara (was Re: Michael Echanis, fwiw) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > Grand Master Hwang (ITF Taekwon-Do Grand Master) said > (paraphrased) he did > "yawara" (spelled phonically) a lot like aikido and hand to > hand. GM Choi, Yong Sul used it to describe his art when he first started teaching. Did GM Hwang mention, by any chance, when he studied yawara? Or with who? The fact that he used the term makes me think he basically was getting in on the ground floor, so to speak. > He also talked about Yudo and Yusool.  A very > interesting conversation about > how Yudo was "soft way" and Yusool was "soft > technique."  He went on to > explain that a lot of people didn't understand the > difference in technique > and way.  Interesting. Yudo and Yu Sool are basically translations of Judo and Ju Jutsu, respectively, from Japanese into Korean. Did GM Hwang equate Yu Sool with yawara, by any chance (since the latter is an alternate term for ju jutsu).
