I still remember what my coach taught me all those years ago. At the point of impact of the fist over the opponents Eye. slightly twisting the fist on impact will cause you opponent to be cut faster. Blood in your opponents eyes always give you the upper hand --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Don Kirsch To: the_dojang Date: Mon, 7 Dec 2009 09:05:53 -0600 Subject: [The_Dojang] In Memory of Dr. Caroline Johnston Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I wanted to pass this sad information on to those of you who knew Dr. Johnston. For those who didn't know her if you ever attended the semi-annual Jackson event Dr. Johnston could always be found on the mat sweating and working hard with her friend and colleague Dr. Richardo Pardo. She was tireless in working towards her goal of Black Belt. I always enjoyed teach her in Jackson or when I had the occasion to travel to Houston to teach. As a "T-sip" I would in good nature joke with her about being an Aggie but the truth is Dr. Johnston was another example of the quality of character and outstanding people that graduate from Texas A&M University. I received the following obituary the week of Thanksgiving. "Caroline Singletary Johnston born January 18, 1962, gave her life back to the Lord on November 24, 2009. Caroline loved life and was loved by all. Born in Fort Hood, TX she was the youngest of 3 children. She later married Robert Johnston. They both graduated from Texas A&M University Caroline, a board certified Family Physician, was a large part of Jacinto Medical Group and Jacinto Medical Corporation. Her patients loved and respected her. Each patient was special to her and she would take care of them after hours, on weekends and holidays, even when she wasn’t on call. Many a time did she have a grocery store consult to take care of someone. She would smile with them, cry with them and laugh with them. She would know them, all their families, and of course the names of their animals. While being an excellent physician, Caroline’s first priority was being a wife and mother. She always made time for her family. She and Rob just celebrated 25 years of marriage this summer. And you could find her at school events from pre-school events to this year’s football games. She drove car loads of children around and loved every minute of it. She was so excited when she got a new camera this year and was snapping pictures like crazy. She was planning on taking Christine’s graduation pictures with it. Caroline was also involved in martial arts. She was taking classes in Tang Soo Do and Hapkido. She also loved to vacation in the tropics and dive. Caroline was one of kind. She will truly be missed by family, friends colleagues and community. Caroline, We Love You." Akiko Reyes (Chatsworth, Calif.) won the silver medal in the 2nd Senior Female division. After advancing to the final round with the fifth-best score in her division, Reyes performed Keumgang and Taebek poomsae in the final round. Her performance scored a 8.03 out of a possible 10, just .06 of a point lower than Korea's score of 8.09. The silver medal is the first-ever medal for USA in the 2nd senior female division. Reyes also adds to her 2007 world bronze medal, which she won as part of the female 2nd team along with Noreen Thackrey and Barbara Brand. Also winning silver on Wednesday was 1st Master Female Dure Chang (Anchorage, Alaska). Chang performed Jitae and Chonkwon poomsae in the final round after advancing with the second-best score in the semifinal round. She maintained her position in the final round with a solid performance, bested only by gold medal-winning Korea. The win gives Chang her third world championship medal, adding to her 2007 silver medal and 2008 silver medal. First-time team member Chau Van Truong (St. Paul, Minn.) displayed impressive athleticism in the preliminary round and scored an average of 8.20 on Taeguek 7 and Koryo, which was second only to Korea's 8.28. Truong performed well again in the semifinal round but did not place in the top 8 needed to qualify for the final round. His division was the second-largest of the world championships with 39 competitors. The United States' 1st Male Team of Rocky Cao (San Jose, Calif.), Albert Jong (San Jose, Calif.) and Alvin Jong (San Jose, Calif.) posted impressive scores in the first round, and advanced to the semifnal round. They continued to perform well in the semifinals, but did not score high enough to advance to the final round. Their final ranking was 13th out of 28 teams. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
